Cinema & Photography Cruise on the Canal Saint-Martin

PRICE : 23.00€ / pers

Description of the cruise

To celebrate European Heritage Days, Canauxrama invites you to see the Canal Saint-Martin in a whole new light, with a cruise dedicated entirely to cinema and photography.

From Bastille to the Bassin de la Villette, set sail through one of Paris's most cinematic neighborhoods. For over a century, the canal's quays, footbridges, locks and calm waters have inspired filmmakers, actors and photographers alike.

Along the way, discover the stories, images and behind-the-scenes anecdotes that have shaped the canal's iconic image.

From Bastille to La Villette: Paris as a Film Set

The cruise begins near Place de la Bastille, before disappearing beneath the city through the striking Bastille vault.

For nearly two kilometers, the boat glides through a truly unique atmosphere, lit by natural skylights overhead. It's a spectacular entrance that reveals a hidden side of the Canal Saint-Martin, before gradually emerging back into daylight.

From there, the journey continues past the locks, swing bridges and footbridges that give the canal its distinctive character.

Tree-lined quays, Parisian façades and views made familiar by film and photography unfold along the water.

The Canal Saint-Martin in the Spotlight

Few places in Paris have such an instantly recognizable look and feel.

Photographers have long captured its quays and its people, while countless filmmakers have chosen the Canal Saint-Martin as the backdrop for their stories about Paris.

Its atmosphere — working-class, romantic, sometimes mysterious — has made it a natural film set in its own right.

Throughout the cruise, our commentary invites you to see the canal through a different lens: spot filming locations, recognize iconic viewpoints, understand how the landscape has evolved over time, and learn about the artists who helped shape its image.

From Marcel Carné to the world of Amélie Poulain, the Canal Saint-Martin also tells part of the story of Parisian cinema.

A New Way to Experience Parisian Heritage

This special cruise brings together several layers of heritage: the architectural and industrial legacy of the Canal Saint-Martin, and the cultural legacy of film and photography.

Passing through a lock, sailing beneath the canal's iron footbridges, or crossing the Bastille vault takes on new meaning once you know the artists who once framed these very scenes through a lens.

The cruise ends at the Bassin de la Villette, having taken in the full, most iconic stretch of the Canal Saint-Martin.
